USA outlaws shark finning: shark fin soup tastes like crap anyway

Tuesday 21st December, the Senate voted in favor to amend the 2000 law that allowed the slaughter of sharks for their fins.
Shark finning is now effectively a crime in US waters, and US officials are now required to work with nations that don't similarly protect sharks. Amazingly, one can still legally find dolphin meat and whale meat in restaurants in Japan, and shark fin soup in many Asian Countries, all eaten mainly for their perverse status: Eat endangered species, look important.

We can thank the National Aquarium (Washington) for collecting letters from visitors and sending them in sacks in the thousands. Sharks are misunderstood creatures made into monsters by Hollywood.
